Soccer

Written before
kick-off.

A match note is not a tip. It is the reasoning — form, rest, team news, and where the market has already moved — set down before the whistle so it can be judged after.

01

Form, with the context kept in

Recent results are only useful next to who they were against, at home or away, and how the run of fixtures actually fell.

02

Rest and rotation

Days since the last match, midweek European or cup football, and the squad depth to absorb it. Tired legs move a match more than most previews admit.

03

Team news, close to the whistle

Confirmed absences and late fitness calls, checked as near to kick-off as we can get before the note goes out.

04

Where the market already moved

If a line has shifted hard, something is known. We say what moved and whether we think it is justified — sometimes the honest answer is to leave it alone.

Football resting on floodlit wet grass

The part most previews leave out.

Plenty of matches are not worth a bet, and we will say so. A note that says “no view, sit this one out” is worth more to you than a confident opinion nobody actually holds.
